Montenegro packs soaring peaks, glacial lakes and a sun-drenched Adriatic coastline into one of Europe’s smallest countries. In the north, Prokletije National Park’s jagged summits and untouched valleys reward hikers with some of the wildest scenery in the Balkans, while Lake Skadar, the largest lake in Southern Europe, unfolds a slower story of vineyards, fishing villages and quiet e-bike trails between water and wine. Medieval monasteries cling to cliffsides, and coastal towns blend centuries of Venetian, Ottoman and Yugoslav history. Compact and largely undiscovered, Montenegro rewards travellers who venture beyond its beaches and into its mountains and wetlands. Montenegro invites you to explore a country where dramatic nature and living tradition sit side by side.

Montenegro uses the Euro despite not being an EU member, so budgeting is simple for eurozone travellers. Most nationalities can enter visa-free for up to 90 days. May, June and September are the sweet spot for weather, warm enough for the coast and cool enough for hiking Prokletije, without the peak summer crowds. A rental car is the easiest way to reach the national parks and wine villages beyond the coastal towns, though Lake Skadar is best explored slowly, by e-bike or boat.
