What can be done with 2.5 million kg of wool per year? Basque Country has about one million latxas sheep, a symbol of the territory. However, their wool is an environmental problem for shepherds because it has no commercial use and cannot be thrown away. Ternua, through its circular economy project “Latxa Artile” (“Vast wool” in Basque), has shown that this wool waste can be a high-quality natural insulator for premium urban jackets. This wool has very interesting technical characteristics: it is antibacterial, thermally insulating, thermoregulating, traps air, works well in the wet, is flame retardant, and prevents the generation of bad odors. Different garments in their collection include this wool.
To be honest, I never thought about travelling to Palestine. It was never on my bucket list. But, by a stroke of luck, I had the opportunity to jump from neighbouring Jordan into Palestine. And I didn’t hesitate.
I didn’t know anything about Palestine. Just the things that had come to me through the media since I was a child. The usual. No need to go deeper into that here. But beyond an unfair clash that seemed – and seems – eternal, I knew nothing about its culture, landscapes or cuisine. I did not expect anything. It turned out to be the best starting point for this journey: when you expect nothing, everything is a surprise. And what a surprise my adventure on the West Bank was. Or better said, it was a non-stop ongoing surprise. The towns and cities, the people, the magnificent food, its nature, culture, history and legacy. Palestine blew me away.
