This historic corner house turned bed-and-breakfast is one of the finest fully restored old properties in Quito’s historic center. Dating back to 1700, the house still exudes classic and colonial style, with a central patio, front balconies and breathtaking views of the historic downtown, spacious rooms and a small wine cellar, but with all the luxuries and comforts of a modern home in the capital. Those who stay here follow in the footsteps of illustrious predecessors, including Ecuadorian poet Gonzalo Escudero Moscoso. The house has four rooms in different styles and can accommodate up to 16 people.
A three-hour drive (seven hours on horseback) from El Tambo is El Porvenir estate (“the future”), also owned by the Perez family. The main house was built by Jorge Perez’s great-grandmother. There are a total of 22 guest rooms, the most luxurious of which have their own fireplace. Activities range from adventure (mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding) to family experiences and “inner vision quests.
